“Stone walls and iron doors are to hold bodies in. They can’t hold the spirit in.”
— Jack London, The Star Rover
An immersive audiovisual experience inspired by Jack London’s novel The Star Rover.
It tells the story of San Quentin death-row inmate Darrell Standing, who escapes the horrors of prison life by withdrawing into vivid dream states and transcending into the depths of his subconscious.
Cage is a pioneering work in immersive audiovisual storytelling, exploring new narrative possibilities within the genres of psychological suspense and science fiction.
The fulldome format allows for the dissolution of boundaries between the “real” and the “imaginary,” creating a space where sensory perception and narrative immersion merge. Through 360° projection and spatialized 3D sound, Cage transports the audience into oneiric and surreal environments inspired by altered states of consciousness.
The project draws parallels between cutting-edge digital technology and visionary experiences, between scientific exploration and shamanic teachings. The audience is immersed in an emotionally charged journey following a condemned prisoner as he confronts the ultimate threshold and begins to dissociate from material reality.
